Trip to the Market

On Thursday we got to explore more of the culture in Nanchang when Evelyn and Sissi took us to a local market. Holy cow! It was like nothing we've ever seen before. Nanchang was established in 220 AD and I'm pretty sure that some of the stones in the streets have been here that long! This was the heart of the city, where the local people shop and we loved every minute of it! We didn't actually buy much because we were just taking it all in...

Sights from the bus window.
Everyone rides scooters and they pile them high.
A man having breakfast while waiting for someone to buy his sugar cane.
Amazing

Lucy chillin on the bus. She's in the baby carrier - this is the sweet face I get to look at all day!

Bryan with our CCAI Reps, Evelyn and Sissi. They are angles!
Bryan and Pua are in our group and they have adopted twin girls. They have become celebrities being mobbed with local people who want to celebrate their fortune!
Jaden's big find in the market! He was thrilled that there were 18 guys included. I guess they are characters that are very popular with the kids. Sissi came and translated their names and who they are for Jaden.
After shopping we went out for a group lunch. Sissi ordered 10 different dishes for us and I don't think there was a one of them that we didn't like! There were a couple Jaden could have done without, though. He likes spicy, but a couple were a little too spicy for his 7 year old tastebuds. In China when you go out to eat all the tables are round and in the middle is a giant lazy susan that they set the food on. It's brilliant! We Italians should pick up on this tip! You think the food will never stop coming, and then you see the watermelon and you know it's the end, that's the dessert!
Lunch - oh yeah!
Our friend Beth holding her daughter Delaney while Mekenzey enjoys her lunch, too.
More friends Charity and Gary with Natalie Wanhan.

  1. I wonder what is more sweet, the watermelon, or holding your little Lucy ~ I am sure I know the answer. Blessings, Carrie

  3. Oh, I wish I were having one of those lunches right now! We would have that big lunch and then eat PB&J (with room service french fries:) for dinner. I'll be praying for Bryan's ankle! Mt. Lu is a long walk but incredible; he can't miss it!
